Vitamin C Serum

We all want wrinkle free, glowing, radiant skin. Right!? As we age, our skin decreases the amount of collagen fibers, which give our skin support, and elastin fibers, which provide strength.  This causes all those lovely wrinkles and our skin becomes thin and weak. I have been using “anti-aging” products for about 2 years now, but I started to get frustrated when I was not seeing any results.  In fact, I was only seeing my wrinkles increase and get deeper! So I started doing some research, and all signs led me to Vitamin C Serum.

Here is what I found:

  • Promotes collagen production and helps prevent further breakdown
  • Naturally strengthens skin and enhances skin elasticity
  • Reduces skin discoloration (evens skin tone) and appearance of sun spots
  • Improves skin texture for a smoother appearance

Serums are also formulated to be oil-water based, which means they absorb into the skin faster and also penetrate deeper than cream based moisturizers.

Vitamin C is great for all skin types. But if you have extremely sensitive skin, you might find  Vitamin C serum to be irritating, and therefore should look for a serum that is designed for your sensitive skin type (see below).

How to use it:  (its so easy!  I did not change anything else in my skin care routine, I simply just added the Vitamin C Serum and noticed a difference.)

  1. Wash face and pat dry
  2. Apply toner
  3. Use 3-4 drop of the Vitamin C Serum (rub onto hands and then smooth onto face and neck)
  4. Complete the rest of your skincare routine
  5. In AM apply sunscreen (always!!!!)

Which one should you buy?

There are TONS of Vitamin C Serums out there and the price range goes from $10-$200.  So how do you know which one to get? Well, obviously I will share which one I use, but I will also share some others so that you can make your own decision.  But here is what you want to look for if you decide to hunt on your own:

  • Main or second ingredient should be “Vitamin C” or “L-asorbic Acid”
  • Packaged in a dark bottle or container (Vitamin C is an unstable compound and is affected by light, cause it to loose effectiveness)
  • Simple indigence list (companies like to add fillers to increase the price but they’re not needed)

I use the Asterwood Naturals Vitamin C Serum with Organic Hyaluronic Acid $11.90 (4.5 star review on Amazon).  Hyaluronic Acid is a hydrator that keeps moisture in the skin. If you are combination skin (like me) and are prone to an oily T-zone, then this is the only Hyaluronic Acid that you want in your regime. Adding more of this acid will cause larger pores and blackheads.  For all my dry skin friends, you can soak up all the Hyaluronic Acid you want, and your skin will love you for it!

Other choices are Truskin Naturals 20% Vitamin C Serum for $19.99 (4.5 star review on Amazon) and Claire-ity 25% Vitamin C Serum for $16.25 (4 star review on Amazon).  These serums have a higher concentration of Vitamin C compared to the Asterwood Naturals brand I currently use. If you have sensitive skin, or if you have never used Vitamin C serums before, you should start with Asterwood Naturals and then work your way up to a higher concentration.

Just like with any other skin care products; consistency is key!  You cannot use this product every once in a while and expect to see results. After testing a small amount on your skin to ensure no allergic reaction, you should use this product at least once a day (preferably at night).

I hope this has been helpful and be sure to share your results with me!  I would love to know how these serums have helped you!

XOXO,

Christine

Hey Lauren!!! I did not see results from retinol either. I tried a retinol serum and had zero results. As for fitness…. maybe! I need to educate myself more on it, especially nutrition. But you’ll be the first to know if I do add it! 🙂
      Thanks for reading!!!
