Go-To Exfoliators!

If there is one thing I refuse to go without in my skin routine, it is a good exfoliator. Between all the daily products we put on our skin, the pollution it collects, the dead skin cells, and the oil…. our skin needs a good scrubbing! Exfoliating clears away gunk, grim, and excess skin cells. Whether you have oily or dry skin, exfoliating is a great way to get a smooth, glowing complexion.

There are two types of exfolitors: Chemical and Physical. Chemical being certain peels and acids that strip away the dead skin and dirt. Physical being the scrubs, sponges and brushes that physically remove them. Both are effective and if used properly and regularly can keep your skin at its best! Exfoliating your skin also prepares it for your other products, allowing them to penetrate your skin deeper and making them more effective.

For Chemical peels, I look for ones that are effective and yet not too harsh. Certain acids at certain percentages can actually burn your skin. That is not fun! Unless you have a license for performing facials and peels, you should only purchase products that are safe for the average consumer. My favorite chemical peels are The Ordinary Brand Peeling Solution and the Glossier Exfoliating Skin Perfector. The Peeling Solution I use about 2 times a month and the Skin Perfector I use every other day in place of my regular toner. If you have dry skin, you may want to use these products less than that. Chemical exfoliators not only affect the outer layer of skin but also penetrate into your pores and help to dry them out (which for oily skin people like me is great!).

Physical Exfoliators are a great way to smooth that top layer of skin by getting rid of dead skin cells. The Charcoal Sponge I use is a gentle yet effective product, and I can’t get enough of it! For only $5, it is a true must-have. I use that sponge almost every day! For general cleansing, I rotate through my Detox Scrub and Eminence Dermafoliant. Both deliver smooth and radiant skin! I use these in the shower at least once a week. And for a super deep clean, a whip out my Clarisonic Brush and use in the shower every other week. The hot shower opens up your pores and allows the brush to get all that dirt and gunk out!

Please feel free to ask any questions! I truly use all of these products and would love to answer questions or give my advice if you have trouble deciding which one is right for you!

XOXO,

Christine
